Specialists
The elementary grades experience a variety of specialist instruction
including music, physical education, technology, and library
instruction. Specialists, trained in their specific areas of
instruction, provide learning opportunities that will expand student
imagination, stretch their physical limitations and develop their full
potential.
- Music Instruction
-
Students are exposed to a variety of music content throughout
their schooling at St. John's. They not only have the chance to
exercise their voices but they also learn a variety of content
information including composers, music composition, musical theory and
instruments. Students perform at the Christmas Program as well as the
Spring Program. Music instruction is one hour per week (two 30-minute
classes). Students in grades 5 & 6 are also part of the choir,
which meets every other week for 30 minutes.
- Physical Education
-
Students are able to run, kick, jump, skip and learn sport skills
through the Physical Education Specialist. They are able to work on
gross motor skills as well as learn the value of being physically fit.
Physical Education instruction is 1 hours per week. Students in
grades K-3 meet three times per week and students in grades 4-6 meet two
times per week.
- Library Instruction
-
Students visit our library once per week or as needed. The
library is fully automated allowing the students to search the on-line
card catalog to find books. Instruction is provided to help students to
better understand how the library is organized and where to locate
specific books.
- Technology Instruction
-
Students attend our newly updated computer lab to integrate the
use of modern technology with their core subjects areas. Instruction of
Kidspiration, Microsoft Office, basic computer navigation, web-based
navigation, and web-based research skills assist and reinforce the
content of the classroom.
